Under the knife

As many of you may know last year I had half of my thyroid removed to a cancerous tumor that was discovered (by Dr. Gould) in my neck. This sounds scary huh? imagine bein me..;(..sigh.... When they did the surgery last year they didn't know if it was cancerous until 2 weeks after the operation so they said we needed to operate asap! Well little did they know I was pregnant with Madelyn so this proposed a whole new set of concerns. We didn't want to do the operation while I was pregnant, so with careful monitoring through blood tests and neck ultrasounds they said we could wait till after she was born. So today is the day, I am having the other half of my thyroid removed as well as the lymph nodes in the central neck region. Of course there are risks involved such as, they could damage my vocal chords and i would possibly never be able to sing again, or hit one of my para thyroid glands. Most people dont even know what a para thyroid gland is, I didnt before all of this. Basically you have four of them in your neck and they are the size of a pea, they make and control the calcium in your body. These glands are very sensitive, you can live with only a half of one! but having surgery done in your neck can make them loose their power completely which would result in having to take calcium meds the rest of your life. You cant live without calcium and if you were to miss a day or two in supplements it could be fatal. Anyway I have given you all short explanation so that you know the details what is happening to me today, but most importantly to ask for your prayer over me and that the Lord would guide the hands of the doctors doing the operation. Thank you, Molly
