Maddie's Newest Tricks

Madelyn is now 5 months old, she is starting to do so many new things. Because of my surgery I wasn't able to nurse her very much so we introduced her to rice cereal and she loved it. I love how babies make such a mess with that stuff! There is a lil video of her eating on my video bar (which is on the left side of my blog). She is trying her hardest to learn to sit up, for now she is content grabbin her toys on her lil' toy gym. Most of all she is responding so much to her momma..:) I love it! when she is on the ground and i walk past she just undulates with happiness! The sweetest thing ever, it makes all the hard parts worth every bit of it. We are so blessed with the lil' bundle of joy!

Our Snow Day

I like snow days for many reasons, most of all making special memories with Emma. Emma is filled with so much amazement every time it snows. She is always askin me, "mom when is it gona snow?" and I tell her "I dont know Emma you have to ask God". So the other morning she hops out of bed and says look mom God gave us snow, then the next thing I know she is standing outside saying "thank you God! you gave us snow, Look momma He gave us so much snow", then she says "Momma, is He listening to me? Where is He?" It was so sweet to se the innocence of a child and the faith they have. Anyway the last couple days have been very cozy and relaxing (despite the countless times we take off an on snow clothes). When it snows I just decide its a "fun day" Im gonna be a "fun mom" and not worry about getting things done, I just wana enjoy it. Emma and I made cookies and banana bread for daddy and had lots of fun enjoying the snow. Maddie was here to but she wasn't quite sure what to think of the snow or how to enjoy it!

Healthy Mom Alert!

I have been trying to cook a lil' more on the healthy side lately, so I was researching different vegetables and came across this.



Reasons why cabbage is good for you
1.Cabbage belongs to the group of cruciferous vegetables. (Brassica family) These are rich in powerful phytochemicals called isothiocyanates which inhibit breast cancer in several ways. A case control study done in China and published in the journal ‘Cancer Research’ confirmed that women who eat more Brassica family vegetables have a much lower risk of breast cancer.

2.Cabbage is filled with antioxidant power. This enables our systems to fight free radicals and clear up toxins, including potential carcinogens. Just about one serving a day (1 cup=1serving) of either cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts or broccoli is enough to provide anti-cancer benefits.

3.The fiber in cabbage keeps your blood sugar levels from fluctuating and also regularises bowel movements. Some people experience bloating on eating vegetables like cabbage. This can be reduced by adding a pinch of asafoetida in curries or munching on fennel seeds / ajwain after such a meal.

4.Cabbage also offers protection against colon and lung cancer due to its isothiocyanate content.

5.Red cabbage has higher antioxidant levels than a green / white cabbage. A study published in the March 2006 issue of Food Science and Technology indicates that the anthocyanins in red cabbage can actually protect the brain cells from damage in conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.

6.Cabbage juice is documented to treat stomach ulcers when had in large quantities over a week. This effect is due to the glutamine content in cabbage. Glutamine heals the cells that line the stomach.

Truly God has Blessed me!

Just wanted to update everyone on the results that we got from my operation. There was no trace of the cancer found in any of my lymph nodes or in the left side of my thyroid!!!! PRASIE THE LORD!!!! Im not gonna lie I was very scared that the results were gonna come back negative and I was gonna have to get another operation, but the Lord has truly blessed me and healed me completely. So now I will have to get routine blood tests done for the next 15-20 years to be sure that the cancer isn't coming back.

What about this for a seasonal idea though??? We could do a christmas tune with our girls (or boys) and overlay classical art mixed with interviews of the ones who are singing..Share your ideas..These girls can most definitely sing in key with some tight harmony!!!

Love for our little girl

So as some of you may have heard, our little cody was too late when he was crossing the street last thursday night. Emma was devastated and so was I, it wasn't so much my great love for cody but the fact that I knew it was gonna break Emmas heart once she found out. She didn't even realize it for a couple days, but when we told her it hit her very hard. She kept crying sayin "I miss my dog", ughh it was so sad. Jonathan couldn't help but comforting her by telling her she could get a new dog. If you know Emma you would have known how much she adored Cody, practically like a brother to her. Anyway to most people a dog is just a hassle but to Emma he was her playmate. So we have been searching all different types of family dogs such as saint benards, labs, rottweiler (yes they actually are known to be a great family watch dog!),and many other breeds. I like all the cute, little miniature ones but Jonathan says he will never own a "RAT"

We finally came across a rare but adorable breed, the Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever! Basically it's a smaller version of a golden retriever but with white markings, very adorable. She is the picture perfect puppy! So with much inspiration to cheer up Emmas spirit her daddy searched the internet till we found the winner. She is only 8 weeks old and wil be meeting our family on March 1, 2011. We would like your ideas on a name for her, Emma is very stuck on "sugar", Mommy and Daddy aren't to thrilled about that , one we have been considering Rusty, Sandy (becuase her coloring reminds of makena sand) and Ginger. We would love your help with coming up some creative names for our new lil pup!
